Through the work of Sanford Meisner, we learn “nothing is casual” and the stakes must always be high. When we listen with every fiber of our being to what and how something is being said, we respond truthfully from our impulses. We are filled with conviction and become unstoppable. There’s no hesitation. Impulses take the place of thinking and real doing takes the place of pretending.
When we listen the same way to our subconscious, we find an untapped reservoir of imagination and connect with our Inner Self. Through Dreamwork we gain access to messages that lead to work that stands out.
Our dreams help us to see unmet “needs.” Sandy’s work is rooted in getting them met. “Acting is living truthfully through imaginary circumstances”
In this course, you will be doing Dreamwork on a Meisner foundation while working with family Archetypes.
Find a 60-90 second monologue that grabs you and start working it. Hold it loosely.
Let the material work on you rather than getting stuck trying to “do” it.
You are welcome to look at a character different from your own gender and/or type.
Directors, writers, producers and those in casting, look first and foremost at your ability to connect with who you’re working with and the text. Our world of self-tapes and online auditioning is here to stay. We will make time to focus on what needs to happen for strong self-tapes and effective online auditioning to take hold, always keeping the work experiential rather than performative. Rooted in connection.
DREAM ASSIGNMENT
Before you go to sleep, write out the following letter to yourself in a journal.
Dear Inner Self, date and time
If it is your will, please reveal to me in my dreams tonight, the essence of what you want me to know. Help me to see how I can come closer to you through this creative work and heal through it.
With Care and Respect,
You
